  • What is an Ontario Company Key?
    A Company Key (CK) is required to access your Ontario Business Registry (OBR) profile and make filings under the corporate statutes. Corporations and other entities created or registered on or after October 19, 2021, will receive the CK as part of their registration.
  • How will I receive the Company Key?
    It is provided in one of the following ways:
    To the official email, or registered office or other business address, as applicable.

    Explanation: When requesting for a CK with an official email on file, the CK will be emailed. If there is no official email on file, you can have it mailed to the Registered or head office address or Principal place of business (depending on the type of entity) that is on file. If you do not have access to the address, you can also answer additional questions to request for your CK.

  • Mandatory Compliance Filing +$99
    For corporations requiring a company key, ServiceOntario mandates a compliance review that includes submitting a notice of change with current address information and providing an official email address. This $99 service fee applies when your business needs to update the registered email address on file, change or update the company's registered address, or enter/update the primary business activity classification.

  • Why is the year 2022 important?
    Year 2022 is important because, in October 2021, ServiceOntario introduced new regulations requiring all businesses to have a Company Key. As part of these changes, new requirements were also implemented, including the designation of an Official Email Address for each business. For businesses registered before October 2021, obtaining a Company Key requires completing a compliance check and addressing any outstanding filings.
  • How to know the address currently on file?
    Check your recent filing document. If you don't know of any recent filing, you may check your Article's of Incorporation or Initial Return or Notice of Change or any documents when you registered the business.
  • What should I write as primary activity?
    This is primary business activity that your business does. Please mention only one activity in single or two words as we have to select the closest activity from the government system. For example: residential construction, reatil shop etc.
  • Can I get my company key without my official email address?
    Yes. As an official Intermediary for the province of Ontario, we can obtain the company key on be half of you.
  • Director or Business Owner's Name

    Provide the name of a director or owner who will act as the signing authority for this order. For a partnership, any partner may sign.
  • Optional details may expedite the processing

  • Note: This can be an individual or an intermediary such as a legal professional, a Professional Chartered Accountant, or members of the Ontario Association of Professional Searchers of records that was hired to perform transactions on behalf of the business.

  • How fast may I receive the document?
    The processing time for obtaining the company key depends on few factors. If your business is registered in 2022 or afterwards, we may be able to send the company in your official email address in as fast as 1 business hour based on the queue you choose. However, if your business is registered before 2022 and you have not set up any official email, it may take between 3 to 14 business days based on the queue you choose.
